Nurse Camp for 5th and 6th grade students to be hosted by DSU
DICKINSON, ND - Dickinson State University will host Nurse Camp on Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Department of Nursing on the fourth floor in Klinefelter Hall. Check-in and registration is from 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
During Nurse Camp, students will be exposed to hands-on activities and encouraged to use thinking skills required to become a nurse. Areas of nursing practice covered include: geriatrics, obstetrics, medical/surgical, critical care, operating room, sports injury care, and nurse educator.
“We are excited to have students experience the Discovery Dome ‘Body Code’ and have a picture taken with DSU mascot Buster the Blue Hawk,” said Brandi Ouellette, sophomore nursing student at DSU. “The Rural Fire Department of Dickinson will also be present for explanation of the Jaws of Life and under water diving.”
Nurse Camp is organized by DSU nursing faculty and nursing students. “Our goals in offering Nurse Camp are to energize and encourage participants’ interest in future nursing careers. We also hope to spark enthusiasm for science and math courses which will help prepare students to succeed during their nursing education,” said Ouellette.
Nurse Camp is FREE and registration is open to all students in the fifth and sixth grades. Each participant will receive a stethoscope and a Nurse Camp sack pack!
