DSU Celebrates Spring Commencement on May 17

DICKINSON, N.D.- Dickinson State University will hold the 2014 spring commencement exercises on Sat., May 17, at 10:00 a.m. The event will be held in DSU’s Scott Gymnasium and will be available for viewing online. Candidates for degree include 201 students from 18 states, 11 countries, and one tribal nation.

Brenda Charles, a native of Antigua, is graduating Saturday with a double major in psychology and communication with a minor in leadership studies. Charles was nominated by two academic departments as an outstanding graduate and was selected as the 2014 spring commencement student speaker. Charles is a Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program (TRHLP) scholar. She maintained a 4.0 GPA while enrolled at DSU and has been active in campus events and organizations. While a student, Charles had the opportunity to participate in original scholarly research and has presented her findings at national, regional and local conferences. After graduation, Charles will be attending Regent University in Virginia where she will be entering a doctoral program in clinical psychology. During her commencement address, Charles will recount the memories made while a student at DSU. She will also share how the experiences and opportunities at DSU have prepared her and her fellow classmates for the path that lies ahead.

After the commencement exercises are declared closed, the new graduates along with their families and friends are welcome to join university faculty and staff for a reception in Weinburgen Gymnasium.
