DSU pays for single or family health insurance coverage that begins the first day of the month after your employment date. Enrollment in health insurance coverage must take place within 31 days of your hire date to receive a waiver of an existing medical condition. Group hospital, surgical, medical protection and prescription coverage are provided.

Life Insurance

DSU pays for the basic life insurance benefit with coverage beginning the first day of the month after your employment date. The University provides $3,500 term insurance. You may purchase additional term life insurance for yourself, spouse and dependents.

If desired, cancer, intensive care, and short term disability insurance are available to you through payroll deduction with coverage beginning the first day of the month after your employment date.

Long-Term Care Insurance

If desired, long-term care insurance is available to you through payroll deduction with coverage beginning the first day of the month after UNUM approval. You may also purchase coverage for your family members.

Long-Term Disability Insurance (TIAA-CREF/Standard)

DSU pays for long-term disability insurance coverage upon your employment, providing income (60-70% of annual salary up to a maximum of $10,000 per month) for disabilities lasting 6 months or longer. Income will be reduced by other disability payments.

Long-Term Disability Insurance (NDPERS)

DSU pays for long-term disability insurance coverage upon your employment, providing income (25% of final average salary) for disabilities lasting 12 months or longer. Income will not be reduced by other disability payments.
