MTV star Kyle Brandt guest appearance on campus

Kyle Brandt, one of the memorable male figures from television’s “Real World: Chicago” arrived on the Dickinson State University campus on Thursday, Jan. 30. Brandt had originally been scheduled to appear on campus last November, but was forced to postpone due to being hospitalized.

Brandt, touring as part of the “Keep it Real” tour, will presented a two-hour program in the Student Center Ballroom. During that time, Brandt talked about his experiences on the MTV series, as well as his attempts to transition into an acting career in movies.

“We’re very happy that we were able to work with Kyle’s agent and get his appearance rescheduled,” said Hal Haynes, director of student activities at Dickinson State University. “The Real World series is incredibly popular among teens and young adults and our students have indicated that they want us to bring these sorts of figures to campus. This was a popular program, not just for university students, but also for youth in the community.”

Described as a person of integrity, intelligence and complexity, Brandt personifies the stereotypical image of the small-town midwesterner who makes it big in the east. A high school football player of the year, he made his way to the Ivy League’s Princeton University, where he endured the highs and lows that accompany the transition to university athletics, as well as the search for an identity away from the football field.

That search led him to an interest in theatre at Princeton. It also landed him a spot on MTV’s “Real World: Chicago,” where he quickly became one of that season’s fan favorites.
