Blue Hawks Picked to Finish 2nd in 2010 DAC Pre-Season Poll
February-08-10

DICKINSON, N.D. - The 2009 Defending DAC Champion Dickinson State Blue Hawks are picked to finish 2nd in the 2010 Dakota Athletic Conference Baseball Coaches' Preseason Poll. The Hawks finished the 2009 season with an overall record of 27-14 and a DAC record of 12-3. DSU placed 2nd at the DAC tourney.

Jamestown College, who won the DAC tournament and advanced to the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament, picked up four first-place votes to top the poll. The Blue Hawks picked up the final two 1st place votes. Dakota State is third in the poll, followed by Minot State and Mayville State. Valley City State, who saw their 2009 season shortened due to flooding, finished sixth.

The Blue Hawks open their 2010 campaign against NCAA II Metro State University from Denver, CO on Feb. 13th-14th.

The poll was conducted by the Dakota Athletic Conference.

Blue Hawks Sign Rio Hondo Standout
December-09-09

Dickinson State Head Baseball Coach Duane Monlux announces the signing of Rio Hondo College standout Willie Sandez to a letter of intent for the 2010 season. Sandez will be battling for a spot at one of the corner infield positions for the Hawks.

Sandez joins the Blue Hawks after a two-year stint at Rio Hondo College. He enjoyed two very productive seasons for RHC. He batted .341 in two years with 98 hits in 287 at bats. He struck out just 21 times in nearly 300 at bats. Sandez added 18 doubles, two triples, and 12 homers to go along with 74 RBI in 77 games played. He was also 4 for 6 on stolen base attempts while scoring 59 runs. He was named to the 2009 2nd team Foothill Conference as a utility player.

“Willie is a welcomed addition to our program,” says Monlux. “We’ve been fortunate enough to have been able to sign some impact players at the break the past few years. I think Willie has the ability to be right in the mix with those players. He will give us some added power at the plate from the left side. We are excited to have signed him for the spring.”

Monlux to be Inducted in DSU Hall of Fame on Oct. 2nd
September-30-09

Current Dickinson State Head Baseball Coach Duane Monlux will be inducted into the Dickinson State Athletic Hall of Fame during DSU's Homecoming Week. Monlux will be inducted on October 2nd at the Elks Club in Dickinson along with Delane Bauer and Mike Kiedrowski.

Duane Monlux was a three sport star at DSU during the mid 90’s. Monlux received the H.J. Wienbergen Dickinson State University Male Athlete-of-the-Year award for the 1997-98 school year. He was twice named to the (NDCAC) North Dakota College Athletic Conference All-Conference baseball team as a .300 plus career hitter and was a three-time NDCAC 1st team All-Conference football player and a two-time NAIA football All-American. He played professional football in the National Indoor Football League for four seasons.

In 1995 he led the nation with a kickoff return average of 33.7 yards per return and ranks second in DSU football history for touchdowns scored in a career (43) and points scored in a career (262). Monlux totaled 4,900 total yards during his four years, which is the second most total yards in DSU history. He is the only player in DSU history to have over 1,000 career yards in kick returns, rushing, receiving, and passing. Monlux was also a three-year starter on the basketball team, helping the Hawks to a 15-11 record and a 2nd place finish in the NDCAC during the 1997-98 season.

Monlux is currently in his ninth season as DSU head baseball coach. He has led the Blue Hawks to Dakota Athletic Conference regular season baseball titles in 2009, 2007, and 2006, along with DAC tournament titles in 2008, 2007, and 2006. He is also an assistant football coach for the Blue Hawk football team. The team has claimed DAC regular season titles in football five times in eight seasons. He and his wife Roxi have two children: son Easton (2) and infant daughter Emree.

"I'm very humbled with this great honor," says Monlux. "There have been many great athletes that have attended Dickinson State and to be named in the same categories as those other athletes is truly an honor."
