Substantial History. Big Future.
In the early 1900s, the population of North Dakota was increasing and the need for education was on the rise. Residents of the “West River” area pulled together to meet the need and in 1918, Dickinson State opened its doors to students. Providing service to the region remains a core focus of DSU’s mission. Today, the community and the university work together to strengthen and support intellectual, social, economic, and cultural development in Dickinson and southwestern North Dakota.
