Completed Projects
A Staff Senate Officer Plaque, effective February 2006, was established to recognize Staff Senate officers. The plaque is displayed on the first floor of May Hall outside of room 119.
The Staff Recognition Award was increased to $1000 in May 2006 for three staff award categories, Crafts, Trades and Services; Technical and Paraprofessional; and Professional.
The Sexual Harassment Policy/ Procedure was revised and ammended October 2006. Members of the Staff Senate worked in collaboration with the DSU Harrassment Policy Committee to revise the current policy prohibiting all harassment and to clarify conduct that constitutes harassment.
The Orientation Survival Guide
is a brochure for new faculty and staff employees that addresses general tips that new employees need to know, such as, where to eat, where to park and where to get forms, etc., The guide was completed in December 2006.
Criminal Background Check Policy
- Members of Staff Senate worked in collaboration with the Taskforce for Criminal Background Checks to establish a policy for criminal background checks to be conducted on DSU full-time and part-time employees.The policy was instituted Feb 2007.
DSU Service Matrix
is a matrix that includes all departments and offices at DSU. The matrix includes the office names, locations, telephone numbers and areas of responsibility. The matrix was completed in June 2007.
The Bulletin Board Policy, effective June 2007, was established to provide a policy on use of campus bulletin boards.
Moments of Excellence
is a Staff Senate initiative designed to recognize excellence among staff members. DSU employees are encouraged to nominate a staff member they feel has gone above and beyond the call of duty in one or more of the following categories: positive attitude; excellent teamwork; going the extra mile; marvelous motivator; outstanding customer service; loyalty and commitment to the university; innovation and creativity; diligence; or a category of the nominator’s choosing. A committee made up of Staff Senators then chooses from among the nominees to award a deserving individual staff member. The award is given out monthly. Nominations for Moments of Excellence Awards can be made on the Staff Senate web page and are due by the second Tuesday of each month. The first Moments of Excellence was awarded July 2007.
The Staff Senate Scholarship was founded in 2007 and is intended to help a student who is a dependent of a DSU staff member pay for books, mandatory fees or any self-supporting programs while pursuing an education at DSU. This scholarship will be in addition to the DSU Employee Spouse and Dependent Tuition Waiver Request which covers only tuition.
Children Of Students, Employess and Visitors in the Workplace Policy
- Members of Staff Senate worked in collaboration with the Children in the Workplace Taskforce to establish a policy not to allow children of students, employees, or visitors in campus classrooms, work areas, hallways, libraries, lounges and areas adjacent to classrooms, laboratories, or offices, except at University sponsored or approved events and activities or under exceptional circumstances. The policy was effective August 1, 2007.
