Thanks to Pattie Carr, the DSU Director of Wellness and Instructor of Fine and Performing Arts, Health and Physical Education, along with the North Dakota Council on the Arts, Arts Midwest and DOT Safe Communities, students from DSU and the region have had a unique opportunity to work with Elisa Monte and her elite dance company from New York City.

The company arrived on Sunday and began teaching first thing Monday morning.  Throughout the week they have worked with students from Dickinson State University, New England High, Dickinson Trinity, Dickinson High as well as students from Beach and South Heart.  They have taught Jazz, Modern, Ballet, Choreograph, Movement for Theatre and Yoga.  They have also taught Yoga at the West River Community Center and movement classes at Able, Inc. and Hawks Point.  The Technical Director for the company has worked with several DSU students who are interested in working in Technical Theatre.  And the Costume Design and Construction class is responsible for caring for the costumes.

The opportunity to work with professionals of this caliber, who truly care about those they teach, encourages the students to work harder and dream bigger.  It gives them support and motivation.
