DSU Women’s Golf Team wins Jamestown Jimmie Open; Men’s “A” Team Finishes Fourth

The Dickinson State women’s golf team started off the 2010-2011 season with a bang today winning the seven-team Jamestown College Jimmie Open. The Lady Hawks finished with a total of 342 strokes to defeat Minot State’s “A” team by 5. The Dickinson women were led by Kelsey Boedeker and Caitlin Hurlock who tied for third place individually with a score of 83. DSU’s third and fourth scorers were Lana Scott and Paige Kamminga, who each tallied 86 to tie for sixth place. Kim Waldner-Reid (90), Steph Wallace (92), and Brittney Backen (95) rounded out DSU’s women’s scoring.
DSU’s men’s team played with a split squad today. Dickinson State’s “A” team shot 296 in a close team competition to place fifth, while the Blue Hawks “B” team finished with 322 strokes. Concordia College (MN) won the competition with a team total of 286. Dickinson State’s Kody Harper led the way for the Hawks carding a 73 to finish in a tie for eighth place. Six other Hawks shot successively behind Harper with Tom Weikle and Kyle Chan carding a 74, Brian Quintus turning in a 75, Zorast Gustavsp tallying a 76 and Tony Elliot and Chandler Pender notching 77’s each. Closing out DSU’s pack were Matt Altner and Dylan Templin who shot 84 and 85, respectively.
The Blue Hawk men’s and women’s golf teams return to action on Wednesday, September 8th at the Bismarck State Invitational.

Sophomore Kyle Chan Finishes in 2nd Place! |
The Dickinson State University Men’s Golf Team finished in third place at the American Midwest/Dakota Athletic Conference NAIA Unaffiliated Region Tournament, in Sioux City, Iowa. In what was a very windy tournament the team finished with a two day score of 310-321= 631 (+55) and was led by the superb play of Kyle Chan, who shot 75-75= 150. Chan is a sophomore from Richmond, British Columbia, Canada and has progressively improved over the course of the 2009-2010 season; culminating in a second place finish this past weekend.
The Blue Hawks narrowly missed finishing in second place by just two strokes, but had a great tournament and season.

The Dickinson State University Blue Hawk Athletic Department is pleased to announce that Kelsey Boedeker and Thomas Weikle were named to the All-Dakota Athletic Conference golf team.
Kelsey Boedeker is a junior from Sheridan, Wyoming and is earning her degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Coaching. She recently finished in first place at the Blue Hawk Invitational and also plays on the Blue Hawk Women’s Basketball Team.
Thomas Weikle is a junior from Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, Canada. Most recently he finished in second place at the Blue Hawk Invitational and first place at the Black Hills Invitational.
