Influenza activity in ND continues to decline. As of Jan. 2, 2010, 3,239 laboratory identified influenza cases had been reported. Only 36 cases have been reported to the ND Dept. of Health since Dec. 8, 2009.

Flu activity, caused by either 2009 H1N1 or seasonal flu viruses, may rise and fall, it is expected to continue for several more months.

In spite of the recent decline in cases it remains important to take everyday precautions to stay healthy.

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
