Brittany Maier was recently selected as the 2014 Dickinson State University Student Nurse of the Year.
Each year, DSU nursing faculty select six sophomore or junior nursing students involved in the Nursing Students Association (NSA) and bring the candidate names to NSA meetings. The NSA members then narrow the search down to three candidates. This year’s candidates were all juniors and included Maier, Stephanie Ficek and Jami Harrington.
Three independent judges reviewed the candidates’ autobiographies before proceeding with individual 15-minute interviews. The judges then chose Maier as the winner. Harrington was selected first runner-up and Ficek second runner-up. Both Maier and Harrington currently are officers on the Nursing Student Association of North Dakota board.
“All three judges were very impressed with our candidates and verbalized that selecting just one was a very difficult process,” said Assistant Professor of Nursing Marlys Bachamp.
Maier will represent DSU at the state level competition which will take place in Jamestown at the end of January.
