About the Program

At Dickinson State University, our nursing programs are designed to meet students where they are and prepare them for where they want to go. Whether you’re exploring nursing for the first time or looking to build on previous experience, DSU offers flexible pathways to support your goals. We offer a fast-track Practical Nursing (PN) Certificate and a comprehensive four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Our curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, professional readiness, and compassionate patient care. No matter which path you choose, DSU is committed to helping you develop into a confident, practice-ready nurse in order to make a meaningful impact in our community.

Please review our new pathway options carefully, it is recommended students who want to earn the registered nurse credentials enroll in the traditional RN program (BSN). Those looking to enter the workforce quickly should enroll in the PN Certificate Program. If you have any questions about which program would be best for you, please reach out!

Students are also able to jumpstart their nursing career with Dickinson State University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. This program is designed as a streamline, four-year degree that takes you directly from admission to graduation. Upon graduation, you'll be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN® exam, opening doors to a variety of career paths in hospitals, clinics, and specialized nursing fields.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Application

Dickinson State University’s Practical Nursing Certificate program offers a fast-track path to becoming a Practical Nurse (PN) in just three semesters. This intensive, hands-on certificate combines essential nursing coursework with clinical training, ensuring you are well-prepared to sit for the NCLEX-PN® exam and begin working in the field right away.

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program prepares students with basic, hands-on patient care in a variety of healthcare settings such as long-term care facilities, hospitals, and clinics. DSU will provide students with supplies for their training including stethoscopes, gait belts, and blood pressure cuffs. This one-semester course encompasses didactic, lab, and clinical learning opportunities to best prepare for the certification exam upon completion of the course.

Dickinson State University’s Nursing Programs—Practical Nursing (PN) Certificate and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)—are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) through Fall 2029. Both programs are fully approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing and the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education. These accreditations and approvals reflect our commitment to high-quality nursing education and adherence to rigorous national and state standards.
