Frequently Asked Questions

For security purposes, the mailroom holds all your packages or anything with tracking. Mailroom staff will put package notices in your mailbox. Take that notice into the mailroom to pick up your package and show your valid DSU ID card to take your package.

You can pick up letter mail in your assigned mailbox.

The outgoing USPS letter mail deadline is 12 p.m. (noon). There is a blue drop box outside Stoxen Library and a letter drop outside the mailroom.

The outgoing package deadline is 9 a.m. (Delivery drivers pick up packages in the mailroom daily between 9-9:30 a.m.—anything dropped off later will go out the next business day).

The Post Office holds mail for Saturday deliveries and does not send it to DSU until Monday.

We receive mail throughout the day from several different carriers. Please give the mailroom coordinator time to sort all mail, as packages cannot be released until they’re scanned through our system.

You can buy metered postage and a small variety of envelopes at the mailroom, but we only accept cash or checks. You have several options if you need a letter or package sent. The mailroom is available to help with your mailing needs.

You can send international mail at an added cost. Packages need to include an International/Customs Form which the mailroom can provide. Typically, you pay postage online for all international packages.

You can sign up for a mailbox by coming by the mailroom to fill out a form and pick up a key. Lost mailbox keys will result in a $50 fine.

Faculty and staff have an office mailbox inside the mailroom. We have a mail delivery person that delivers office mail and packages daily, or faculty and staff can pick up their mail directly from the mailroom.

All FREE Priority packaging materials are available in the DSU mailroom. (Pay by weight, flat rate, etc.)

  • Postcard: 6” long x 4 ¼” high x 0.016” thick (any one dimension larger is a letter)
  • Letter: 11 ½” long x 6 ⅛” high x ¼” thick (any one dimension larger is a Flat)
  • Flats: 15” long x 12” high x ¾” thick (any one dimension larger is a package)
  • Mail must be uniform in thickness and be flexible. If not, it’s considered a package.
