Introduction to Career Development

Career development is a journey and the time spent at DSU is your first step. Wherever you are in the process – from jumping into the workforce to considering graduate school – we offer one-on-one assistance to help you plan and achieve career success. We strongly encourage you to take a proactive role in career exploration through involvement with Career Development’s services early in your Dickinson State University experience.

Students and employers are encouraged to visit Hawk for Hire to learn more about employment and internship opportunities.

Career Exploration

We offer you a variety of services, including (but not limited to) access to different employment opportunities and internships, applications, creating a resume and cover letter, and different volunteer options.

Focus 2 is an online portal that will guide you through a reliable career and education decision making model, helping you to choose a major and to make informed decisions about your career.

FOCUS 2 is free for DSU students. It combines 5 self-assessments, career and major exploration, action planning and decision making in one comprehensive site.

You can utilize Focus 2 in your classes or during academic advising sessions.

Graduate School Resources

If you are looking to continue your education beyond DSU, graduate school may be something you want to consider. Meeting with an advisor in Career Development or in your major department is the best way to start your search for a graduate or professional program. Together you can discuss your options and develop a plan for completing the application process. In Career Development, we offer individual graduate school advising and critiques of personal statements and application essays.
